What Is Private Duty Home Care?

families looking for private caregivers
In-home care often simply referred to as “home care” offers a way for older adults to remain in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by familiar faces and cherished belongings. For many families, this can be a welcome alternative to relocating to an assisted living facility or other residential senior care options.

This type of care provides nonmedical support with everyday activities, also known as activities of daily living (ADLs), as well as companionship. It’s important to note that in-home care is different from home health care, which involves clinical medical services delivered in the home.

If you think in-home care could be the right solution for you or your loved one, LightSpring Care is here to help. Give us a call at 215-935-6321 to speak with our Client Services team and create a personalized care plan tailored to your needs.

How to pay for Private Care?

  • Long-term care insurance: If your loved one has a long-term care insurance policy, it may help pay for personal care services at home. Coverage depends on the policy’s terms and usually requires meeting specific care needs or health triggers.
  • Family contributions: In many cases, adult children or other family members pool resources to help finance caregiving expenses, especially when their loved one’s income is limited. This can be formalized through shared payment plans or informal agreements.
  • Home equity or reverse mortgage funds: Seniors who own their homes may choose to tap into home equity through a reverse mortgage. This option provides monthly income or a lump sum that can be used to pay for home care services while remaining in the home.

Who Uses Private Pay?

Private pay home care is used by a wide range of individuals, including:

  • Older adults who want to age in place
  • People recovering from surgery or illness
  • Those with chronic conditions like dementia or Parkinson’s
  • Disabled adults needing daily support
  • Veterans who prefer private arrangements over VA benefits

Private Pay Live-In Care

In this model, caregivers work 16-hour shifts and are able to sleep for 8 hours a day and remain in residence with the patient. This is distinct from 24-hour shift care which typically will require several caregivers on rotating shifts without sleeping.
